How to Add Kontakt Libraries Correctly

Kontakt library setup depends on whether the library is registered through Native Access or designed for the Files browser.

Quick answer: Use the correct installer and plugin format for your operating system, place the plugin in a folder scanned by your DAW, restart or rescan the DAW, and complete authorization through the software publisher. Always use legally obtained installers and valid licenses.

Identify the Type of Kontakt Library

Not every Kontakt instrument can be added to the Libraries browser. Registered products use an official serial or account-based workflow through Native Access. Other legitimate third-party instruments may be opened from Kontakt’s Files browser or Quick-Load system. Trying to add an unregistered library as a registered product can produce errors.

For Native Access Libraries

Install the current supported version of Native Access from Native Instruments.
Sign in to the account that owns the product.
Register the serial if required.
Choose Install for a new library, or Locate/Repair when valid content is already downloaded.
Select the library’s main folder—not an individual instrument file.
Open the compatible Kontakt version and allow the database to refresh.

For Non-Library Kontakt Instruments
